Watched Argo last night. Decent enough, but Best Picture? Never in a million years. Zero Dark Thirty is tense, beautifully made, and doesn’t shirk the moral ambiguity of its subject matter. Lincoln may be Spielberg’s masterpiece (or one of them), and gives us an insight into the very dirty business of politics – even when the cause is just. What Argo offers is simplicity. There are good guys, there are bad guys. It’s a nice piece, but compared to the other two, distinctly shallow.
